The ILA have Officially Gone on Strike at the East & Gulf Coast Ports

We want to inform you that the strikes on the East & Gulf Coast are now in progress as of 12:01 A.M. October 1, 2024. This means that these ports are now closed until further notice as long as the United States Maritime Alliance (USMX) and the International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) cannot come to an agreement. This will result in congestion within the ports, stoppage of the flow of goods, and cargo being “trapped” at sea. Some of the ports include Boston, New York/ New Jersey, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Houston, and Miami.

Key Points:

All containers currently in the ports are possibly subjected to detention and demurrage charges while carriers will not cover or reimburse any third-party charges connected to the work stoppages.

If the strike lasts longer than expected, it is possible for carriers to introduce “Force Majeure” and unload specific cargo that was bound for the East & Gulf ports at close by international ports.
